About China Institute of Geological Environmental Monitoring (CIGEM)


Major responsibilities:


China Institute of Geo-Environment Monitoring, directly affiliated to the Ministry of Land and Resources, assumes the responsibilities for the construction and management of nationwide geo-environment monitoring network, the monitoring, predicting and warning of the geo-hazards throughout the country as well as relevant survey and research work, and provides hydrogeology, engineering geology and environment geology information services.


Major tasks:

1.To participate in the drawing up geo-environmental surrey/evaluation and monitoring work programs and plans, and to raise counter measures and suggestion for geo-hazards prevention/control and geo-environmental protection;

2.To undertake survey, evaluation, monitoring, integrated study and early warning /prediction of geo-hazard;

3.To organize the implementation of nationwide groundwater environment monitoring and to carry out survey, evaluation and integrated study of groundwater resources and environment;

4.To conduct hygrogeologic, engineering geologic and environment geologic survey /evaluation and integrated study, and to participate in the formulating norms and technical standards of hydrogeology, engineering geologic and environment geologic work and geo-environment monitoring work;

5.To assume the responsibilities for the construction and management of national geo-environment monitoring network and geo-environment information system, and to undertake the task of receiving, gathering, analyzing, processing and integrated studying the national geo-environmental survey, evaluation and monitoring data and materials so as to provide service for government decision-making department, society and public ;

6.To carry out domestic and overseas science/technology exchanges and cooperation in geo-environmental survey, evaluation and monitoring, as well as extension and application of new techniques and method;

7.To practise vocational guidance, coordination and technical services for provincial geo-environmental monitoring work;

8.To undertake other work entrusted by the Ministry of Land and resources.
